Healthcare in America......

.....SUCKS! I have a hole the size of Vesuvius in one of my molars. I think a filling fell out. Can I go to the dentist and have it fixed? No. No I can't do that. I can't afford that. Also, I don't have insurance anymore. Can I actually just go to the dentist and have it looked at? Nope. Still a cash flow problem there. Okay. Alright. How about this. Can I just go and sit in the dentist's waiting room and think about having it looked at? No? I'd be a nuisance? Alright. Alright. Can I drive by the dentist's office and wave at the building while thinking about having it looked at? No? Okay, alright, okay. How about if I just say the word "dentist" three times and click my heels together and uh.....Not gonna work, huh?? Okay.....can I....oh NEVERMIND! It's just so damned frustrating! And remember the brilliant idea that the Bush administration had? You know the one where they said that they thought that everybody should have a health care savings?? You know. Put a little away each month for health care. Ummmmmm. Errrrrrrr. Uhhhhhhh.....
If I had any money to start any sort of a health care savings don't you think that I could just afford the health care insurance????????????

Comments:
I had this EXACT SAME THING happen.
I'm so sorry, Thingy!!!!!!

I also hate to tell you this, but mine happened during the Clinton Administration and it was the exact same thing. I was even on medicaid and couldn't get it fixed.

I finally had to have a root canal and cap (My parents had to pay for it. I still feel bad about that).

See my post about self-conducted oral surgery a couple of months ago.

But now? Now I am in Canada - land of the 90% income tax to support the lazy, disabled, and persons in need of mediocre medical care.

In your face, capitalism!

Sharon, that is a great idea. I'll check it out!

Thing One, I know that there were people without $$$ during the Clinton administration but now there's a HELL of a lot more and without jobs. And the people in office now as (opposed to Clinton)
could give a rat's ass about the poor. Guess that's all I was trying to say. Looks like I'm gonna need a cap, huh?

Alex, guess there really is no solution.

I guess my whole little speil is about possibly lowering insurance rates and not giving the insurance companies SO much power!

EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE HEALTH CARE INSURANCE IN THIS COUNTRY!

Aw, SUCKY! I totally understand the pain of having a filling fall out,and it SUCKS. I also understand the pain of expensive dental care and no being able to afford it. I'll wallow in misery with you.

Loralee (uh, LC1), I've also had a root canal and I'm still waiting to get mine crowned. I have a feeling it's going to be a very, VERY long time...I just hope it doesn't crack and fall out in the mean time. :(

I hate teeth. Maybe I should get my teeth coated in diamonds.

Oh wait. I can't afford that either.

The one good thing, MM is that it doesn't hurt....yet! I'd just better not wait too long. I think Sharon's suggestion of dental school is a good one. I'm gonna do some checking around....yeah...
with all of my spare time....sigh!

you should look into what kind of health care packages your school offers to students... I know that it's still a little extra out of the pocket right now, but my $180 so that if I ever have to go to the dentist it'll only cost me $5 per thing (i.e. $5 for the check up, $5 for xrays, $5 per tooth filled) seems very worth it right now...

Hey sparkliesunshine!
It's so very cool to see a new face! Thanks for coming by. I'm not nearly as exciting as my "namesake" but she's kind enough to put me on her blog roll and every now and then I have something interesting to blab about! I'm going over to your site right now! Yay!

You are every bit as exciting as me, Missy!

I am so stinking liberal on the subject of health care that it completely drives my libertarian husband BONKERS.

Snicker.

One....
Good girl....keep up the good work!
Two

If Americans would quit spending their money on idiocy, they could afford to go to the dentist without giving their money to the insurance whores.

I mean, who needs cable fucking television? Who needs a cell phone for personal use? Who needs a $6.50 venti no whip soy latte every morning and afternoon?

Honestly! Why are people always saying "we're supposed to have it so good" in their whiney little all-the-shops-on-Rodeo-Drive-are-closed -today voices, as they're on their way to Jenny Craig to pay $500/week to starve themselves into skeletons, when everyone else in the world gets to do it free (with the added benefit of being entertained by the family of flies that live on their eyelids and intermittent visits from Sally Struthers).

Yeah. And I'm not really sure where that came from, but it felt damn good!

I know it's a little late to comment on this post, but this is for Alex who seems to think that dental care is worth a caramel latte: read this on how much dental care cost another of the YLT blogging contestants.

P.S. To Alex: I know you were being sarcastic, I just wanted to point this out...
